GROUP RIDING SAFETY
KNOW YOUR RIDE STAFF
Your Ride Staff are wearing yellow safety vests. They are here to lead you on the ride, to make sure that everyone is being safe and respectful and to help you in case of an emergency! Talk to them if you have questions or concerns at any time.

RULES OF THE ROAD

Your safety depends on everyone following some basic Rules of the Road for group riding. When we’re out on our own, some of us ride a little fast and loose from time to time - but on these large group rides it’s important to behave ourselves.
1. RIDE IN STAGGERED FORMATION - not side-by-side
DO NOT try to ride right next to your companion(s)

2. RIDE PREDICTABLY, check mirrors often, and do a head check before changing lanes

3. GIVE PLENTY OF SPACE TO THOSE AROUND YOU

4. KNOW & USE HAND SIGNALS for turning, stopping, and pointing out obstacles in the road.
5. FOLLOW ALL TRAFFIC LAWS
Intersections WILL NOT be blocked or controlled so always be aware of other vehicles on the roads. YOU have to make the call at intersections to keep yourself and others safe.
6. KNOW WHAT TO DO IF SEPARATED FROM THE GROUP
Ride Staff will do everything they can to keep the ride together, BUT in case of separation, it's your responsibility to know where the next stop on the ride is. Your Ride Leader can communicate this to you.

POLICING
If a rider is blatantly NOT following these Rules of the Road and their behavior is endangering the safety of the group, you’re gonna get a “talking to” by Ride Staff. Let’s try to AVOID that, please, and be on our best behavior.
Continued risky behavior can lead to expulsion from that ride and/or
subsequent group rides. We really don’t wanna have to do that, so please set a great example so we can all get back safely at the end of the ride.
Be safe out there, ride predictably and respectfully, and enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the Pacific Northwest!

In case of breakdown...
If you need a tow, and you're willing to wait for an hour or two, VCOA Membership entitles you to our Roadside Assistance package. CLICK HERE for instructions.
Have a buddy pull over with you, if possible, to help assess the situation and attempt to get you back on the road.

Depending on location, your best option might be to leave your bike and grab a Rideshare back to the hotel until you can get help picking it up.

If all else fails and you need help, text or call (612) 405-8946 and we'll do our best to get someone out to you.
